Un falso amore se ha llevado mis bañadores de marca (and the truth)
They had broken up a week earlier. He claimed to be having an awful time, crying, his eyes wrecked. And yet, in the selfie he posted he looked gorgeous. So much so that he had bothered to crop out his mother, who appeared next to him, and to add a black-and-white filter. With that very specific scene the song Un falso amore se ha llevado mis bañadores de marca (A False Amore Has Run Off with My Designer Swimsuits) begins, in an almost monologue tone, like someone telling you the story at the bar.
The lyrics pile up evidence like a detective with a big grudge. The first: using the other's designer swimsuits to show off his package on the nudist beach and in the cruising area. The second: leaving home and leaving the drawer empty. Not one designer brief, not one. I find it hilarious that, of everything you can lose in a break-up, what stings most is that drawer.
Then the chorus lets out what it's holding in, without a filter: amore, honestly, you're disgusting. And it repeats it, and adds that he's fed up, that he can't wait to lose track of him, that he'd better not ask for any more favours. Goodbye forever, false amore. The Italian «amore» is no accident, as we'll see.
Because the second part uncovers lies from day one. On his birthday, with his supposed best friends, the cake had thirty candles. Get this: he was turning fifty. And those blue eyes that reminded you of the sea, were they contact lenses? Not at all, amore, he would answer. The half-Italian thing doesn't stand up to much scrutiny either.
The underlying theme is the feeling of having lived with a character. Not with a person, but with a well-rehearsed role, with his fake age, his dubious nationality and his catalogue eyes. And the way to heal it isn't crying, it's the meticulous chronicle, with humour and brand names.
The ending is pure sarcasm: a thank-you for everything he supposedly fought for, of which not a word is believed.
Listen to it with someone who has also had a false amore. Compare evidence. Some of it will surely match.

Lyrics · UN FALSO AMORE SE HA LLEVADO MIS BAÑADORES DE MARCA
Amore, Sinceramente das ascoDas asco, ¡y estoy harto!
