Que Isso: two cowboys, a handshake and lots of tenderness
«Que isso» is what people say in Brazil when something catches you by surprise, halfway between amazement and "come off it". I love putting that exclamation on a cover like this one.
Two cowboys in embroidered rodeo shirts, fringes, huge buckles and slicked-back quiffs. One rests his hand on the other's shoulder, they hold hands and lower their eyes together, foreheads almost touching. Behind them, a circle of cream light, comic-book stars and old-poster colours, red, petrol green and beige, like a Western nobody ever dared to shoot.
There's something very tender about that image. No swaggering pose: it's a moment of intimacy between two men whom the set was asking to be tough.
I see it as a Western in reverse. Nobody fights a duel here; here, people comfort each other. And the title plays the audience's reaction, that "wait, what is this?" that slips out when something breaks the expected.
