Esta canción es una mierda (and it says so itself)

Before anyone says it, the title says it: Esta canción es una mierda (This Song Is Shit). It seems to me the best way to disarm a critic: take the words out of their mouth and put them on the cover, in capital letters.

What's inside is more manifesto than conventional song. It's aimed at those who give opinions without understanding, at those who criticise for the sake of it, at those who confuse honesty with madness and art with a formula. It's a list of enemies very recognisable to anyone who has made something and shown it on the internet.

I like how the lyrics tell their own origin: it was born of tiredness, but also of laughter. That double root explains everything. There's weariness, of course, but no bitterness. The idea is to say: fine, think what you like, I'm still here, writing, creating and provoking.

There's a line that is the heart of the track: if my authenticity bothers you, the problem isn't my song, it's your filter. A very clear way of returning the ball. There's a lot of talk about filters on social media, the ones that smooth your skin and erase dark circles. Here the filter belongs to the one looking, the prejudice through which they listen.

There's also a reflection on the times, which live on labels and quick judgements, where everything gets classified and almost nothing gets felt. Faced with that, the song refuses to apologise for making art out of emotions. It's protest, belly laugh and statement, all at once. And it leaves a comforting idea: what hurts today will be history tomorrow.

At the end the GayFolk planet peeks out, with its history, its chihuahuas and its truth, as a reminder that all of this is part of the same universe.

It's about the right to keep creating even when they tell you your work is worthless. Who I'd dedicate it to is clear: everyone who has ever left a destructive comment without contributing anything. And also whoever received one and kept going.

Listen to it with a crooked smile. And if you don't like it, don't worry: the title has already agreed with you.
