El Abrazo de Pitufo: the most sincere refuge I know

After so many songs about liars, impostors and narcissists, one was needed that talked about the opposite. El Abrazo de Pitufo (Pitufo's Hug) is that song: the one about unconditional sincerity.

Pitufo doesn't ask. Doesn't pretend. Doesn't demand anything. He comes over, looks and lies down on top of you as if he knew exactly what was needed at that moment. And he does know. That's what disarms me.

Some hugs are given out of obligation, politeness or because it's expected. And then there's this one, which has no hidden agenda. That's why it works as an antidote to fake people, whom half the Planeta Gayfolk catalogue complains about. When the world becomes an uphill climb and everyone seems two-faced, a hug like that gives you back your calm and, what's more, makes your day.

What can't be explained

I find it hard to put into words what that hug has, and the song doesn't fully try either. What it says is that it feels like truth. That sometimes sincerity doesn't come from whoever talks most, but from whoever doesn't need to say anything.

It's a song of gratitude. For all those times Pitufo has been a refuge. For reminding me, with something so simple, that honesty still exists.

I like that it has such an intimate tone, almost like a lullaby. It contrasts with the spite of other tracks and shows another side of the planet: tenderness without irony.

Put it on during a sofa-and-blanket afternoon, especially if you have your own Pitufo nearby. We all have one, or should.

Some people need hours of therapy to find calm. Sometimes it's enough for someone you trust to lie down on top of you without asking permission. There's no better medicine against a bad day or against two-faced people.

Thank you, Pitufo. This one's for you.
