What a machine cannot write for you: Mike Sain't Louis, AI and the private noise behind «Ruido en mi mente»
The Madrid-based indie alternative artist who calls himself “the first AI singer-songwriter” uses artificial intelligence the way earlier generations used the synthesiser — but every line about the racket inside his head is his own. All 273 singles of PLANETA GAYFOLK can be streamed and downloaded free at mikesaintlouis.com

Madrid, 25 October 2026. There is a question that follows any artist who works with artificial intelligence: what, exactly, is yours? For Mike Sain't Louis, the answer sits in the opening lines of «Ruido en mi mente» (“Noise in my mind”). Echoes crash inside him; noises refuse to leave; a stopped clock screams its tick; the air weighs as much as a grey brick. No software went looking for those images. They came from a particular person on a particular kind of night, and that is the point. Mike, an indie alternative artist based in Madrid, describes himself as “the first AI singer-songwriter” (“el primer cantautor IA”). He writes every lyric in his project PLANETA GAYFOLK. The music and the vocal performance are produced with artificial intelligence, used as a tool for production and arrangement. The words, the concept and the artistic direction are his.
The instrument and the signature
Every generation of musicians has had to argue about a new machine. The electric guitar was once noise. The drum machine was once cheating. The synthesiser, sampling, Auto-Tune and the bedroom laptop studio each had their turn in the dock. Mike Sain't Louis puts artificial intelligence in that lineage: a powerful instrument that, on its own, has nothing to say.
“AI is my studio, my band and my arranger,” he says. “It can give me a hundred versions of a chorus in an afternoon. What it cannot give me is the reason the chorus exists. It doesn't know why I couldn't sleep, or which memory sat on the edge of my bed. That part has to come from me, or the song is empty.”
That is why he chose the label “first AI singer-songwriter” for himself, and why it needs to be read carefully. Mike does not sing; the voice on his records is generated with AI. What he does is the traditional work of a singer-songwriter — writing from his own life, deciding the tone, building a world — with a new tool to give it sound. The machine is the instrument. The word is the signature.
Inside «Ruido en mi mente»
«Ruido en mi mente» is one of the most vivid songs in his catalogue about mental health. Its images move like a dark fairy tale: shattered hours dancing in the singer's shadow, a moon that mocks with an idiotic cackle, the past sitting at the foot of the bed as a reminder of who is really in charge. The narrator wants to escape a labyrinth whose exit laughs back, and keeps falling into broken mirrors where the reflection is wounded.
The chorus is plain and relentless:
«Ruido ruido ruido en mi mente otra vez Cierro los ojos pero no se va esta vez» (“Noise, noise, noise in my mind again / I close my eyes but this time it won't go away”)
Midway through, the song asks whether reality is true or a trick — or simply the echo of something that cannot be forgotten. Each step forward pulls the narrator back. In the final lines the narrator builds a wall in order to see themselves more clearly afterwards, yet keeps falling all the same.
“People who live with anxiety will recognise that repetition,” Mike explains. “It isn't poetic. It's literally what happens: the same thought, again and again, louder when you try to switch it off. I wanted the chorus to feel like that — to say ‘noise’ three times because once is never enough. If a listener thinks, ‘That's exactly my three in the morning,’ the song has done its job.”
Where the noise comes from
Mental health runs through Mike's work as a central thread rather than a theme he visits occasionally. He has spoken publicly about how, with professional support, he turns years of relationships with narcissistic partners into music. His aim is to make narcissistic and psychological abuse visible, along with the marks it leaves on mental health, so that people who live through it feel seen and believed. «Ruido en mi mente» does not tell a story about a specific relationship, but it lives in that same territory: the aftermath, when the other person may be gone but their echoes are not.
This is also where the question of authorship becomes more than theoretical. A machine can imitate the shape of a sad song. It cannot know what it is to doubt your own memory after someone has spent years rewriting it for you. That knowledge is what turns a set of images — clocks, mirrors, a laughing moon — into testimony.
An artist with no one in between
Mike Sain't Louis is a lyricist, composer and music producer, as well as the artistic director and CEO of his own independent label, MIKE SAIN'T LOUIS. There is no record company behind him and no middlemen. Over roughly two years of work he has released 273 singles and more than 280 music videos, all part of the PLANETA GAYFOLK universe. It was not a quick process: every song, image and decision passed through his hands.
His range is wide. The catalogue moves from electropop to copla, from alternative pop to ballad, with songs in Spanish as well as English, French and Portuguese. Alongside songs like this one sit cheeky, camp and uncensored tracks about love, heartbreak, exes, nosy neighbours and queer life in Spain. His lyrics can be explicit and he does not tone them down. In 2024 his song «Tan Cateto» went viral on TikTok, which is how many listeners first found him.
“The funny songs and the dark songs come from the same place,” he says. “Honesty. Some days the honest thing is to laugh at my ex. Some days the honest thing is to admit there's a noise in my head that won't stop. I don't want to pick just one of those people.”
A calm view for a loud mind
The photograph accompanying this release is almost the opposite of the song. Mike sits on a white-walled terrace in a light blue linen shirt; behind him are an olive tree, a green hillside and a bright blue sea. Everything in the frame is still. That contrast is part of the story the song tells: from the outside a person can look perfectly at ease, sitting in the sun, while inside the clock is still screaming. Mental health rarely shows up in a picture.
Why South African listeners should press play
South Africa has a long tradition of musicians who use whatever tools are at hand to say something that matters, and a lively independent scene in which artists release music directly to listeners online. Mike's model — one person, one label, a free catalogue and AI used openly as an instrument — speaks to that do-it-yourself spirit.
The subject matter travels too. Conversations about anxiety, depression and the after-effects of emotional abuse are increasingly part of public life everywhere, and a song that names the 3 a.m. noise plainly can be a small companion for anyone who knows it. «Ruido en mi mente» is in Spanish, but its lyrics are published in full on his website, and the images — the stopped clock, the laughing moon, the broken mirrors — translate easily. Mike writes primarily with Europe and Latin America in mind, yet the questions he asks about authorship and technology are global ones, and South Africa's multilingual audiences are well used to music that crosses language lines.
The planet behind the song
«Ruido en mi mente» belongs to PLANETA GAYFOLK, a universe organised as a trilogy of albums designed as one journey: «Descubierto un nuevo planeta llamado GAYFOLK» (“A new planet called GAYFOLK has been discovered”), «Ojalá se pudiera viajar a GAYFOLK» (“If only we could travel to GAYFOLK”) and «El día de la liberación» (“Liberation Day”). The destination is a planet where everyone can live exactly as they are. On the way there, songs about the noise inside are as essential as the songs of celebration.
