Notebook by Day, Arguments by Night: Inside the Working Routine of Mike Sain't Louis, the Madrid Indie Artist Who Calls Himself the First AI Singer-Songwriter
He writes every lyric, directs every take and spent roughly two years building a 273-single catalog called PLANETA GAYFOLK. A profile of the daily craft behind the label, from the quarrel in «Discutiendo con la IA» to the hidden sadness of «Dark Corners»

MADRID, Spain — October 25, 2026. People who meet Mike Sain't Louis usually ask the same thing first: so what do you actually do all day? The question tends to arrive with a raised eyebrow. If the music is made with artificial intelligence, the thinking goes, the job must take about as long as boiling an egg. Type, click, publish, repeat.
He has heard it so often that he wrote a song about it. The honest answer is far less magical and far more like a trade: a man with a notebook, rules for his own ear, and a long list of takes he throws away.
Mike Sain't Louis is an alternative indie artist based in Madrid who presents himself as "the first AI singer-songwriter." He is a lyricist, composer and music producer, the artistic director of his project and the CEO of his own independent label, MIKE SAIN'T LOUIS, with no record company behind him and no middlemen in between. He writes all of his lyrics. The music and the vocal performance are generated with AI, which he uses as a production and arrangement tool. The words, the concept and the artistic direction are his. Over roughly two years he has released 273 singles and more than 280 music videos under the name PLANETA GAYFOLK.
The slow part nobody films
A typical day, by his own account, starts with words, not software. An idea can show up on the subway in ten seconds and then take days to find its shape. Some lyrics arrive almost whole; others sit for weeks with a chorus he loves and two verses that aren't good enough yet.
"Generating a song takes minutes. Writing one takes as long as it takes," he says. "The machine is the oven. I'm the one who decides what cake we're making, burns the first one and starts again."
Only once a lyric is finished does it go to Suno, the tool he works with. From a single lyric he may get a handful of versions or dozens, each with its own melody, rhythm and phrasing. Then comes the part he considers the core of the job: listening, rejecting, asking again. He has a private test for it. If he can't write the lyric down from the audio alone, without reading along, the take is out. His songs live on what they say, and a joke nobody can hear isn't a joke.
A quarrel set to Locomía
That is the background to «Discutiendo con la IA», one of the bluntest songs in his catalog. It starts from the most common insult thrown at artists like him, that using AI just means pressing a button, and answers it with a picture of what the job really looks like: him, at all hours, arguing with the AI while Locomía plays in the background. The Spanish lyric is rude, funny and repetitive on purpose. The phrase "discutiendo con la IA" comes back again and again until it stops sounding like a joke and starts sounding like a timesheet.
Beneath the camp and the swearing, it captures the friction of the daily process. The tool doesn't read his mind. It proposes; he objects. A lot.
"People imagine a genie," he says. "It's more like a stubborn session band that never gets the joke unless you push it there."
The sadness under the glitter
If «Discutiendo con la IA» shows the workshop, «Dark Corners» shows what the work is for. Written in a mix of English and Spanish, it follows someone who wakes up late with no sun, smiles to hide what is underneath and goes dancing anyway, high heels on, mood on the floor. The chorus places him in the dark corners of the club with his own shadow, which "owns" his nights.
I'm the king of nothing here But I smile pa' no sentir
The song ends on a tiny exchange — "Hey… are you okay?" "Yeah… just dancing…" — that anyone who has hidden a bad stretch behind a good outfit will recognize. It sits squarely inside one of the main threads of his work: mental health. Mike has said publicly that, with professional help, he turns years of relationships with narcissistic partners into music, to make psychological abuse and its marks on mental health visible, and so that people living through it feel seen and believed.
Two years, not two weekends
The numbers can make the project sound industrial: 273 singles, more than 280 videos, a trilogy of albums designed as a single journey — Descubierto un nuevo planeta llamado GAYFOLK, Ojalá se pudiera viajar a GAYFOLK and El día de la liberación, the story of a trip to a planet where everyone can live exactly as they are. But Mike is quick to point out that it took roughly two years. The speed of the tool didn't remove the hours; it moved them, from the studio to the notebook and the listening chair.
He has also written openly about rest. A machine doesn't get tired. He does. "The tool would keep going until sunrise," he says. "I can't, and I've stopped pretending that's a weakness. Resting is part of the job."
His style runs from electropop to Spanish copla and ballads, about love, exes, nosy neighbors and queer life in Spain. Many listeners found him in 2024, when «Tan Cateto» went viral on TikTok.
Why American listeners should pay attention
The American debate about AI in music is loud and often abstract. Mike offers something concrete: an artist fully transparent about his tools, who treats the AI as an instrument he argues with rather than an author. For U.S. listeners who follow queer pop, Spanish-language music or the bilingual sound of songs like «Dark Corners», his catalog is a direct way into how one person is actually using this technology, day after day.
