Tattoo de Fénix: reborn on the dance floor with fire in your chest
Wearing a phoenix tattooed on your chest is never a decorative detail. It's a statement: I've burned, I've turned to ash and here I am again. Tattoo de Fénix (Phoenix Tattoo) takes that very classic image and plants it in the middle of a dance floor.
The lyrics are simple on purpose. There are no big stories or plot twists. There's a body, a tattoo, a club and a rhythm that keeps rising. The hero is flying between beats in what the song calls the «club despecho» (the heartbreak club), and I find that expression beautiful: a place you go precisely because something in you has been broken and you've decided that tonight there's no crying, there's dancing.
Turn up the volume, it asks in the first verse, and from there nothing can stop it.
Waist, spin and fire
The moment everyone remembers is the bridge: «Agárrame de la cintura bien fuerte, papito» ("Hold me tight by the waist, papito"). It's an invitation with no beating around the bush, with that playful reggaeton touch I enjoy so much. Spin with me, a lively dance, the atmosphere catches fire. There are no complicated metaphors here; there's heat, contact and desire.
The lovely thing is that the phoenix and the flirting live together without any problem. Being reborn is also that: wanting someone to take you by the waist again after a bad patch.
The song repeats its parts over and over, like a club mantra. Far from being a flaw, it's what the dance floor asks for at two in the morning, when you no longer need novelty but a chorus you can shout with your eyes closed.
Who's it for? For anyone who's just come out of something ugly and has bought new clothes. For anyone with a tattoo that means more than it lets on. For anyone who feels like burning for a while, in the good sense.
