Tangled Light: twenty years of shadow, and finally a glow

I wrote Tangled Light in English and even so it's one of the most personal songs I have. Sometimes switching language helps you say what still weighs too much in Spanish.

I'll make it clear from the start: it's not a love song. It's the echo of twenty years trying to survive someone who believed he could break me, silence me, erase me. Every scar that appears in the song is real and every line comes from something I lived through. There are no invented characters or decorative metaphors. There's a long relationship that gradually put out the light.

I find the title very precise. Luz enredada, tangled light. That light you have inside that someone devoted himself to tangling, tying up, using as food. Because that's what some people do: they feed on your brightness until they leave you dull. And you don't even notice, until one day you look around and no longer recognise anything.

The song turns all that around. They tried to drown me and I learned to shine. They tried to tame me and I became impossible to touch. I love that idea that harm doesn't always sink you, that sometimes it makes you brighter, as if the pressure had compressed something until it turned into something else.

A rebellion in whispers

I don't feel it as a scream. It's more of a quiet rebellion, a gentle burn. I like to imagine it as that moment when you finally cut the cord with someone who lived off your energy and the world suddenly opens up. You breathe again. The colours look different. The house goes quiet and that silence, for the first time in years, isn't frightening.

It's a song for anyone who has come out of a long, draining relationship, romantic or of any other kind. For whoever is still untangling their own light and isn't quite sure which end of the thread to pull. Listen to it on a long, aimless walk, or early in the morning with the window open.

In the end, what Tangled Light tells is simple: this is the life someone failed to destroy. And it's still here, shining in its own way.
