Que me coma el chumino la jefa de servicio: a witness, and not afraid

It starts almost like a postscript. I forgot to make clear, say the lyrics, and then they come out with the important part: to the colleague who's been fired, count on me if I need to go and testify as a witness. Just like that, in passing, like someone adding a line at the end of an email. And with that the whole conflict is set up.

This song continues the workplace stories that appear in other PLANETA GAYFOLK tracks, that little office soap opera with coordinators, bosses and orders coming down from above. Here the focus is on solidarity. Someone has been dismissed and the narrator takes their side, without hesitation, and lets whoever needs to know find out.

Fewer threats

What's interesting is the tone. There's a warning, there's courage, and there's a very clear message for management: fewer threats and «mucho cuidadito» ("you'd better be very careful"). That expression, with its diminutive like a scolding grandmother, seems great to me, because it turns a serious warning into something full of mischief. It's the old-school Madrid way of saying I know what you're up to and you don't scare me.

And then there's the chorus, which needs no introduction because it's already in the title, roughly "the head of department can eat my pussy". The lyrics start with «higo» and end with «chumino», two slang words for the same thing, in an escalation of vulgarity that is pure release. It's what you say when you no longer care about looking good. A two-fingered salute turned into a song, repeated many times, the way you repeat the insults you've been swallowing for months.

Some people may find it too much. For me it has the same spirit as those old coplas in which women said out loud what they weren't allowed to say. There it was heartache and here it's injustice at work, but the feeling of liberation is very similar.

It's a song for anyone who has seen a colleague unfairly dismissed and felt they had to do something. To remember that testifying as a witness is also a form of struggle. And for shouting in the car as you leave your last day at work.
