Not Your Supply: I'm not your fix or your energy source
«You call when you are empty, you leave when you are full.» With that first line, in English and without complicated metaphors, Not Your Supply defines a type of person almost everyone has had close by at some point.
The key word is supply. In pop psychology it's used to talk about the attention, admiration and energy that certain people, the most narcissistic ones, need to draw from others in order to feel alive. That supply. The song takes the term and turns it into a chorus: I'm not your supply, I'm not your drug, I'm not your food. You take what you want and run off.
What I like most about the lyrics is how they describe the mechanics. You touch as if it were a business. You stay as if it were a loan. You take what you can carry and then leave everything lying around. And on top of that you tell the other person they're too sensitive, that they're the fool. That reversal of blame is textbook, and the song points it out bluntly.
The second verse adds a very sharp observation: that person needs a room full of people to feel they exist, and a body full of patience on which to sharpen their tricks. They say it's just attraction, just a game. But every time they play with hearts, the one who ends up burning is always the same.
It's about setting a boundary. About moving from complaint to the short, firm sentence. Not your supply. Repeated four times in a row, it sounds almost like a mantra, something you tell yourself in front of the mirror before not answering a message.
It's more sober than other songs of mine, with no jokes or TV references. Here humour gives way to clarity. And being in English, many more people who have been through the same thing can understand it.
Dedicate it to whoever only shows up when they need you. Or keep it for yourself, turn up the volume and don't pick up the phone.
