Mi Pena: a rush-seat chair and a bowed head
A rush-seat chair, a peeling wall and a man sitting with his head bowed. He wears a short black velvet jacket with embroidery, like an Andalusian riding suit, and his tattooed hands rest on his knees. All in black and white. The cover of «Mi Pena» (My Sorrow) needs nothing more to tell you the mood you're about to enter.
The title is short and emphatic, the kind that seems taken from an old copla. My sorrow, with the possessive, like something you carry on you that's yours and nobody else's. I like that there are no frills: no exclamations and no metaphors, just the word.
That mix of Andalusian tradition and tattoos is very PLANETA GAYFOLK: the same old thing, looked at from somewhere else.
It asks for low light and no hurry. It's one to put on when a sadness wants you to keep it company for a while instead of trying to shake it off.
