Me mola Zeus: a TikTok crush that gets out of hand

Zeus, you're messing up my algorithm. And I'm into it. That's how the song starts, and I think those two sentences tell the whole story of almost every screen crush we've lived through in recent years.

Me mola Zeus (I'm Into Zeus) is a crush narrated in real time. He shows up on the «For You» page looking like he hasn't slept, with broken headphones, and the narrator is already hooked. They tell each other they're not looking for anything, «yo tampoco» ("me neither"), and three days later someone isn't eating, watching his videos with red eyes. It's a caricature, of course, but a very recognisable one.

What I like about the lyrics is how they mix fantasy with tiny, tender details. He can't dance, but you follow him anyway. He says he hates drama, but you can see him crying to Lana. A watery coffee becomes the best date of the week. It's all part of the romance the song imagines, the kind where little things become huge because the person doing them is someone you like enormously.

The chorus is an explosion in capital letters: «me mola, me mola, Zeus Vargas me mola». Even if he doesn't look at me, even if he ignores me. Some lines make me laugh a lot, like his trauma dancing and him not knowing how to brake, or this being desire with wifi and no mercy. There's horniness too, said without shame: the profile picture makes you hungry and the glass steams up. It's a song about desire and owns it.

In the end, the narrator accepts that this is going to kill him and doesn't care. It's the happy surrender of someone who knows he's falling for someone out of reach and decides to enjoy it. That closing «me tiene a solas» ("he has me all to himself") seems to me the most honest confession.
