¿Me hago un folclórica engañada? Drama with waxing included
«Los niños, oír, ver y callar.» (Children should hear, see and keep quiet.) That's how the song starts, with an old-school father's saying. And the question that follows delights me: and when the child is already fifty-something, can't you tell him off either?
The child in question is an ex. And the lyrics portray him with almost notarial precision: the day before going to La Tejita he waxes his whole body, books a hairdresser's appointment, goes over himself with clippers and razor and doesn't even skip his little tail. All very spruced up for cruising. Then, at home and with his boyfriend, he wouldn't even brush his teeth. That contrast is the heart of the track, and it still makes me laugh.
The title question is the one anyone cheated on with premeditation asks themselves. Do I go into copla mode, with the handkerchief and the faraway look, like a deceived folk diva, sorrowful and humiliated, «que sabe todo y a la vez no sabe nada» (who knows everything and at the same time knows nothing)? That's what the said gentleman's sister advises, whom the lyrics dismiss as «otra lagarta» (another lizard, i.e. schemer), clarifying that she's not the Teide lizard but the scheming kind. The Canary Islands peek out at every corner.
The answer, in the end, is a Next! loud and clear. Liar, traitor, unfaithful cruiser. There's a moment of childish game, ja, jé, jí, jo, jú, that ends where it has to end, in a very homely bit of vulgarity. And there's a wink about names: he asked not to be mentioned, and the song finds him nicknames with every intention in the world.
What I like most is that the spite here doesn't turn tragic. It turns gossipy, it turns cocky and it starts twerking, because the fifty-something child also has the right to enjoy a good perreo. It works as therapy and as gossip at the same time.
Who would I dedicate it to? To anyone who has found the razor more worn than the toothbrush. Put it on with friends, on the terrace, when it's time to go over exes with a vermouth in hand.

Lyrics · ¿ME HAGO UN FOLCLÓRICA ENGAÑADA?
