Lola Flores: ruffles, a bare back and lots of flair
A woman seen from behind, in a flamenco dress printed with red flowers, her back bare, her hair gathered up with a flower and big earrings. In the background, in shadow, a guitar leaning against the wall. The cover of «Lola Flores» shows nobody's face, and I think that's a beautiful decision: when you say that name, everyone pictures the image in their own head.
Lola Flores is one of those names that need no introduction in Spain. Using it as a song title is a declaration of affection and admiration for a way of being in the world with flair, with temper and without apologising for taking up space.
The look, with an old-photo texture and red poster lettering, goes straight to copla and the flamenco tablao, much-loved territory on PLANETA GAYFOLK.
Pair it with a glass of manzanilla, or have it playing while you get ready to go out, and let the name work its magic.
