La primera drag, among pink feathers and glitter
Feathers. Loads and loads of feathers. The cover of La primera drag (The First Drag) is an explosion of pink marabou surrounding everything, from the shoulders to the back of the image. In the centre, me with a beard, glitter on my cheekbones and a heart tattooed on my chest, looking at the camera with a half-smile. It's the aesthetic of the most glamorous cabaret, but in PLANETA GAYFOLK style.
I love that the image doesn't try to look like a classic drag queen. There's no huge wig or stage contouring. There's beard and feathers at once, shimmer and body hair, and that already says a lot. Drag is also about playing with what's supposed to go together and what isn't.
The title, written in pink neon letters, has something of a claim about it. La primera drag. The first of whom? Of a village, a family, an era? Being the first always has merit and always has a price. It's opening a path where nobody has gone before.
I invite you to listen to it with some sparkle on, even if it's just a bit of glitter on your face. And to think of all those pioneers who stepped onto a stage when doing so was still frightening.
