La música me está salvando, and it's leaving you on the floor

I can't believe it. Just like that, no anaesthetic, «La música me está salvando» (Music Is Saving Me) begins, with someone who can't believe how well things are going and someone else, a lout, who's going to believe it even less.

The part I enjoy most is the list. A very long rundown of everything that hasn't worked: not psychologists, not friends, not siblings, not psychiatrists, not doctors, not boyfriends. And then it goes completely over the top, because paediatricians, vets, prayers, miracle fasts and Esperanza Gracia's predictions haven't helped either, and I mention her with all my affection because she's a TV astrology icon. The punchline is the best: no honest or sincere politician, «ya lo sabemos» ("we already know"). That resigned little tag makes me laugh every time.

Against all that, music. The chorus rises like a lift: saving, lifting, rising, until it carries the protagonist to heaven on a vowel stretched to infinity. And on the way down, the contrast: the other one is being left on the floor. A very clean revenge, built on being better than ever.

Then comes the settling of scores. A question to the «mentiroso cabrón» ("lying bastard") about whether this was in his action plan, and some advice: start improvising, things are changing. In the bridge it gets really naughty. Goodbye forever, Pinocchio; the crisis is over. There's a big fat insult, a reference to his favourite hobby, cruising, and a very sensible recommendation slipped in between laughs: get yourself tested. Sexual health and spite in the same line, which is very much house style.

For me it's about something serious told with humour: when everything else fails, sometimes what holds you up is putting a song on at full volume and writing the next one.

It goes out to anyone who's left a relationship with a liar and found they breathe better without him.

At the gym, in the shower or on the day you run into your ex looking gorgeous.
