Judith Bécker and a La que se avecina marathon to cure the blues

The bags under my eyes reach the floor from so much crying. It's one of those days. You've worked, you've cried, you've cried again, and in the end there's only one possible plan left: sofa, remote and the entire season of La que se avecina in which Judith Bécker appears most.

It seems to me one of the most sincere plans there is. Everyone has their comfort series, the one you put on when the day has run you over, and in Spain a huge number of people have that one. The song doesn't explain why Judith and not another character, and there's no need: anyone who knows her knows she has more than enough character to keep you company on a bad night.

The chorus stretches the vowels to infinity, «enteriiiita, avecinaaaa» (the whoooole season, avecinaaaa), like someone complaining sprawled on the sofa with the blanket up to their chin. It's dramatic and comic at the same time, which is exactly the tone of the series. I find it funny that the crying sounds so much like a copla lament and that the solution is a TV comedy.

Then comes the moral, repeated like a mantra: why be with fraudulent partners who always cheat on you, better alone with your animals than surrounded by fake people. That's the heart of the matter. It isn't just a bad day; it's the accumulated weariness of the deceptions. And the conclusion isn't entirely sad, because that solitude comes with company: the animals at home and the neighbours of Mirador de Montepinar on the screen.

I understand it as praise for staying home. For choosing pyjamas over someone who lies. For accepting that, sometimes, looking after yourself is a full season of a series with the animals asleep at your feet.

Dedicate it to that friend who cancels Saturdays to watch series. She's right. And listen to it, of course, with the episode on pause.
