Igual que en las pelis slasher, but in pyjamas and dressing gown
Buy, buy, ladies and gentlemen! Igual que en las pelis slasher (Just Like in Slasher Films) starts like a street market, with a hawker shouting out his wares, and within seconds turns into a B-movie horror film.
The story revolves around a character the song calls the miserable half-metre. He threatens once again with the animals, because he knows it's the only thing that really hurts the narrator. It seems to me a very accurate way of portraying cruelty: attacking exactly where it matters most, and doing it knowingly.
Hello, is anybody there?
The chorus is pure horror cinema. The lyric asks whether anyone is there, whether anyone can help her, whether she's alone, whether he's coming to kill her. That drawn-out «Hola Hola Hola Holaaaaaaaaa» (Hello Hello Hello Hellooooo) is the scream of the girl going down to the basement with a torch in every slasher film, and I find it hilarious to transfer it to a couple's fight.
And the detail I like most: the narrator suddenly appears in pyjamas and dressing gown to ask people how much they'd pay for detailed information about the two-faced dark-haired guy. It's an absurd and very theatrical scene, halfway between the horror victim and the neighbour who comes down to the landing to tell everything. The auction at the start makes sense here: the gossip goes up for sale.
The second part describes the character as a coordinator, but of lies and scars, someone who badmouths everyone behind their backs: the boss, the mother, the colleague, the best friend. And the lyrics finish him off by comparing him to a good script from La que se avecina, the series that so often appears in my universe as the benchmark for neighbourhood entanglements.
I really enjoy mixing genres like this: horror, teleshopping and sitcom in three minutes. It's a way of laughing at something that, in reality, was pretty frightening.
I'd dedicate it to you if you've ever felt like the heroine of a horror film in your own home. Listen with the light on, just in case. And with your dressing gown on.
