Franco ha muerto: mourning, sunglasses and a black rose
Few phrases weigh as heavily in this country's memory as the one that gives the song its title. Franco ha muerto (Franco Is Dead) was heard on television half a century ago and even today it provokes all kinds of reactions. That's precisely what interested me: what happens when a phrase like that turns up on a PLANETA GAYFOLK single.
The cover is a funeral in every sense. A dark coffin covered in white flowers, a stone cross in the background and me dressed in black from head to toe, with sunglasses and a black rose between my tattooed hands. The title, in old-poster lettering in cream and red, presides over the scene as if it were an official announcement.
I don't know if that mourning is grief, relief or pure theatre. The pose has more of a star than of a heartbroken widower about it, and sunglasses at a funeral always hide something: tears or a smile best not shown.
I'll let the cover speak and the song finish the story. Listen to it with an open mind and draw your own conclusions about this very particular burial.
