El narcisista: a heart frozen even against a flamethrower
You've even tried a flamethrower. And nothing. The heart is still frozen. That's the central image of El narcisista (The Narcissist), and I find it one of the most graphic in PLANETA GAYFOLK. There are people you can't reach by any human means, however much fire you throw at them.
The chorus makes it clear from the start: the narcissist hates whoever loves him, he has never cared for you or loved you. And then comes the cheekiest detail, that English word frozen stretched out and repeated, as if the other's heart were the set of an ice-princess film. What should be tragic ends up with a touch of children's musical, and I love that.
The made-up version
The lyrics also talk about something very specific: the smear campaign. He has already told his colleagues that you're very fake, not to listen to you, that you even go to a psychologist. Anyone who has left a relationship like that knows that moment when the other gets in first with their version and you're left out of the story.
But the vain narcissist didn't count on one thing. This musical is going to become famous. I find it very funny that the song calls itself a musical, with all the pomp that implies, and turns its own existence into the answer. Bringing the real truth to light, not the version the other has made up.
There are very harsh lines, like the one about leaving you dying and naked while you drowned in the mud, and others full of venom, like the one saying he never saw you «como un artista» (as an artist) but as a terrorist. And there's the cry of exhaustion: I can't take any more, I can't go on. Those stretched vowels are pure release.
Karma peeks in too, connecting this song with others in the project: remember what I told you about karma? Well, here it is.
It's a song for anyone still trying to melt someone who doesn't want to be melted. To tell them to put down the flamethrower, it's not worth it.
Put it on when you need to remember that telling your version is a right too. And that sometimes it's better told with a chorus.
