Cover of the single Drift Away

Drift Away: surfing a pink wave

A pink wave? Of course. In Drift Away everything is that colour, even the sea.

The cover catches me mid-manoeuvre on a pink surfboard, crouched, arms wide to keep my balance, pink swim shorts and sunglasses in the same shade. The wave curls overhead like a fuchsia tunnel, and in the background the coast peeks out with palm trees and apartment blocks, the beachfront kind.

I love how over the top the image is. There isn't a single concession to reality: the water is bubblegum, the sky is a poster sunset, and the title, written with a brush, looks painted onto the wave itself. It's summer as painted by someone who has spent too many months in an office.

The English title is about letting yourself go, drifting off. And the cover does exactly that: it invites you to drop the oars and let the current decide.

Put it on when you need a holiday and still can't take one. Three minutes of pink wave won't cure you, but they help.
