Dans la nuit: rain, blue street lamps and a pink raincoat
It's raining. It's night. And in the middle of the street, a fuchsia raincoat glowing like a sign. That's how Dans la nuit opens, the song with a French title in this batch.
The cover is almost a film noir scene. I appear facing forward, hair wet, a serious gaze fixed on the camera and an intense pink raincoat that contrasts with everything else: the black of the night, the rain falling in thin lines and a row of blue street lamps fading into the distance, reflected on the asphalt.
I really like that tension. There's no smile, no friendly pose. There's someone walking at night in the rain who seems to have something to say, or something to run from. The title, in French, adds a layer of mystery: it sounds like a faraway city, a railway-station novel, a whispered confession.
I'm not going to tell you what happens on that night. I'd rather you listen with the lights off, or better still, walking home on a rainy day with your hood up.
