Contact Overwhelms Me, in a suit of lights and in pink
Contact Overwhelms Me. The title is in English, but the cover is pure southern Spain. A bullfighter's suit of lights in fuchsia pink and gold, embroidered down to the last centimetre, with shoulder pieces loaded with pearls and a very thin black tie over the white shirt. In the hand, a gathered pink cape. Behind, a dark red like a curtain or the wooden barrier of a bullring.
The gaze is serious, restrained. No triumphant poster pose from the fair. I like that tension: the suit is made for display and the title speaks of the opposite, of when the closeness of another body becomes too much. For some people a hug is a refuge, and for others it's a packed bullring.
On top of that, the pink strips the suit of all its solemnity and gives it something of cabaret, of reinterpreted copla, which is a territory where I feel very much at home.
I'm not going to tell you what the song says. I suggest listening to it with headphones and some space around you, in case contact overwhelms you too.
