Como en la matanza de Texas: portrait of an emotional vampire
He drags chains through the bar and greets you with a forced smile. That's how the protagonist enters the scene, and from the first verse you know he's no leading man: he's an emotional vampire.
I really like how the lyrics resolve the metaphor. This vampire bites without drawing blood but leaves a scar. No fangs or cape, just lies, manipulation and a mask of innocence that's hard to suspect. He picks the weakest, sucks their strength at full speed and turns hope into salt. Every tear he steals he keeps as a trophy. It's a type of person many of us have met, or suffered, in some gay bar or some relationship.
The chorus gets straight to the point: you're an emotional vampire, a merciless predator. It repeats like someone pointing a finger so everyone hears. And at one point there's an ironic twist, «¡Qué diversión! soy fácil de atrapar» (What fun! I'm easy to catch), followed by the crux of the matter: invisible blood, no evidence of the crime and no puddle to clean up. The perfect crime of this kind of person.
The song also promises justice: every cycle has its end and the shadows he summons will end up devouring him. But the best comes at the end, when the lyrics turn into a horror-film script. Someone runs screaming and asking for help, as in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and nobody answers. At last a good man opens the door, listens to the story, takes pity and goes to call the police. And then, as in every horror film, the vampire appears behind him and steals his energy too. The police are no use.
That scene makes me laugh a lot because it's exactly what it feels like when you try to explain that someone is draining you and that someone arrives, smiles and wins the others over too. Him with a cheerful face and you in full agony.
Dedicate it to whoever left you with flat batteries. And listen with the light on, just in case.
