Autopsia del insomnio: flying in pyjamas over the city

Someone is flying in pyjamas. Pink patterned pyjamas, fluffy house slippers, arm stretched forward like a superhero, and below, an entire city with its lights on. Above, a gigantic full moon, pink as well. That's the cover of Autopsia del insomnio (Autopsy of Insomnia), and I think it's a beautiful way of describing what it's like not to sleep a wink.

Because when you can't sleep, your head does exactly that: it flies off. It goes over the rooftops, replays conversations, imagines other people's lives behind every lit window. Below you can see a house with a pool, lit up in the dead of night, as if nobody were sleeping there either.

And then there's the title, which has its touch of black humour. An autopsy is what's done to something already dead. Here, what's examined with a scalpel is the lost night, the sleep that never came. I like that mix of the clinical and the posh, of the forensic table and the pink slippers.

It's the ideal song for anyone reading this at four in the morning. Put it on, close your eyes and let it fly.
