Ataúd de neón: pink button-tufting and the lights on
Imagine a box lined entirely with pink button-tufted leather, like the inside of a luxury coffin, its edges lit by fuchsia neon tubes. Inside, sitting with his legs apart and his tattooed hands on his knees, a guy in a pale hoodie with his eyes half closed. The cover of «Ataúd de neón» (Neon Coffin) is that emphatic: macabre and glamorous in equal parts.
The title joins two ideas that don't usually go together. The coffin, which is ending and silence, and neon, which is night, party and shop window. I love that very camp contrast, because if one day it's time to say goodbye, better to do it in pink light and good upholstery.
It also has something of confinement about it: a beautiful space you perhaps can't get out of. Everyone will read it their own way.
At night, with the lights low and a coloured lamp on. The song supplies the rest of the atmosphere.
