Andrés, and a chorus that only knows how to say never

He showed him all his weaknesses. All his vulnerabilities. Andrés starts there, in that moment of total exposure, and from there builds one of the most emphatic door slams in PLANETA GAYFOLK.

What I like about the opening is how it's written, in very short lines, almost word by word, like someone speaking out of breath. The narrator understands that the other, knowing his weak spots, has one last plan ready. But he warns him: he's going to be left wrong-footed. He didn't want to give explanations face to face and preferred to leave everything to speculation.

There's an ironic portrait of the character that makes me smile: Andrés, the faithful one, the one who always tells the truth. Said like that, in the song, it sounds exactly like the opposite. And that play on sincerity is the key to the track.

NEVER, in capitals

The chorus is one of the most forceful things I've written. Because of that badly understood sincerity, there won't be the slightest chance between them. And before getting there, the word «NUNCA» (NEVER) is repeated in capitals, four times, like blows on a table. I love how little you need to add when one word says it all.

The second half plays with silence and repetition. Hums, murmurs and wordless sounds appear, as if the narrator had nothing more to explain. And then, syllable by syllable, the final sentence: there will never be anything more, not even a friendship. And he thanks him for his sincerity, with all the irony in the world.

That bare structure strikes me as very effective. You don't need to tell the whole story to understand that something has broken beyond repair.

It's a song for anyone who needs to close a door and not leave it ajar. To read out loud before pressing block. Put it on when someone asks to be friends again, and let the chorus answer for you.
