Swipe, Block, Repeat: How Mike Sain't Louis Turns Hookup-App Cruelty Into Pictures You Can't Unsee
In “Buscando el polvo perfecto,” the Madrid-based indie alternative artist who calls himself “the first AI singer-songwriter” writes a merciless satire of dating-app vanity — and directs the images that go with it as carefully as the words

MADRID, Spain, October 25, 2026 — Every gay man with a phone knows the grid: rows of cropped torsos, blank squares, headless profiles and the occasional face. Spanish indie alternative artist Mike Sain't Louis has written a song that lives inside that grid and then burns it down. “Buscando el polvo perfecto” — roughly, “Looking for the Perfect Hookup” — is a merciless, darkly comic satire of dating-app vanity, sung from the point of view of a narrator who blocks everyone who isn't young, fit and flawless. It's funny, it's uncomfortable, and above all it's visual. That's no accident. For Mike Sain't Louis, a song is never just audio; it's an image he has to direct.
Based in Madrid, Mike Sain't Louis calls himself “the first AI singer-songwriter,” and he is precise about what that means. He writes every lyric. He conceives each song, decides its style and mood, and directs the visuals. The music and vocal performances are generated with artificial intelligence, which he uses as a production and arranging instrument. He doesn't claim to sing on his recordings, and he doesn't pretend otherwise. The words and the artistic direction are his.
A Song Written Like a Storyboard
Read the lyric of “Buscando el polvo perfecto” and you can almost see the frames. The first verse is a rapid-fire series of rejections, each one a snapshot of a profile being dismissed: too heavy, too bald, too old, not the right body. The narrator's verdict arrives with a cold refrain about blocking and ignoring, and a punchline as blunt as a closing door:
“Si no contesto y te bloqueo, / es porque eres muy feo.” (“If I don't answer and I block you, / it's because you're very ugly.”)
The chorus is a chant built around the app itself — spelled in the lyric, with a wink, as “Grinder” — stretched out like a notification sound: searching for the perfect hookup, searching for a “discreet” boyfriend, at all hours, until someone ends up crying. Then the verses turn the screw. The narrator mocks men who are effeminate, men who aren't “marked,” men who are older, while describing himself as an athlete, “a good macho,” even a god.
Nobody is supposed to admire this narrator. The song puts the cruelty of the app on display so clearly that it becomes ridiculous. Mike Sain't Louis is holding up a mirror, and he's doing it with the exaggeration of camp.
“I didn't invent a single one of those lines,” he says. “Anyone who has spent time on those apps has read worse. I just put them in one place, gave them a beat, and let people hear how absurd they sound out loud. Once you laugh at it, it loses a little bit of its power over you.”
The Advice From Toledo
Midway through, the song changes perspective. In a long spoken passage, the narrator remembers a former fling in Toledo who gave him some “sincere” advice before he moved away: if you're looking to get married, this isn't the app for it; if you don't take care of yourself, you'll have to lower your standards; nobody plays innocent anymore. The narrator finds it depressing. The friend shrugs: it's not my opinion, it's obvious.
It's the most cinematic moment in the song — a scene with two characters, a city and a piece of hard-won cynicism. And it sets up the twist that gives the track its meaning.
Where the Grid Disappears
In the final section, the song steps off the phone screen and onto another world. The closing lines announce a discovery: a new planet called GayFolk, where there are no hookup apps, no complexes, nothing to worry about for those who like to stay “discreet” — and where people are not simple objects.
That planet is the backbone of everything Mike Sain't Louis makes. His project, PLANETA GAYFOLK, is organized around a trilogy of albums designed as a single journey: “Descubierto un nuevo planeta llamado GAYFOLK” (A New Planet Called GAYFOLK Has Been Discovered), “Ojalá se pudiera viajar a GAYFOLK” (If Only You Could Travel to GAYFOLK) and “El día de la liberación” (Liberation Day). The destination is a planet where everyone can live exactly as they are.
Seen from there, “Buscando el polvo perfecto” is a postcard from the place you're trying to leave.
Directing the Image
The visual side of his work is not decoration. Over roughly two years, Mike Sain't Louis has released 273 singles and more than 280 music videos, and he acts as the artistic director of all of it. Each song is imagined with a look, a setting and a tone before it's finished. Sometimes the image is glossy and extravagant; sometimes it's close to a still portrait. The goal is always the same: the picture has to say what the lyric says.
The photo accompanying this release makes the point in its own way. Mike Sain't Louis walks across a stone bridge at sunset, hands in the pockets of a grey bomber jacket, the river and city lights glowing behind him. It's a full-body, full-context image — a man in a place, at an hour, in motion. Put it next to the cropped, anonymous squares that “Buscando el polvo perfecto” mocks, and the contrast is the message: a person is more than a thumbnail.
“A profile picture wants you to be a product,” he says. “A good image wants you to be a person. When I direct a video or choose a photo, I ask myself which one I'm making. If the answer is ‘product,’ I start over.”
Who Is Mike Sain't Louis?
He describes himself as an indie alternative artist, and the label fits. He is lyricist, composer, music producer, artistic director and CEO of his own independent label, MIKE SAIN'T LOUIS. There is no major label behind him, no manager, no middlemen. His style moves through queer alternative pop, electropop, ballads and copla, the dramatic Spanish song tradition. Most of his songs are in Spanish, with others in English, French and Portuguese.
His recurring subjects are love and heartbreak, exes, gossiping neighbors, queer life in Spain, liberation and mental health. His lyrics can be explicit, and that's part of the work. “Buscando el polvo perfecto” is explicit in its language and attitude, but its real target is the way an app can turn desire into a ranking system.
Many listeners discovered him in 2024, when his song “Tan Cateto” went viral on TikTok.
Beneath the humor there's a serious purpose. Mike Sain't Louis has spoken publicly about turning years of relationships with narcissistic partners into music, with professional help, to make narcissistic and psychological abuse and its marks on mental health more visible — and so that people living through it feel seen and believed. A song about being reduced to a profile, judged and discarded, fits that purpose better than it might first appear.
Why American Listeners Will Recognize This
Dating apps shaped modern queer life in the United States as much as anywhere, and the conversation about their effect on self-esteem, body image and loneliness is a familiar one here. “Buscando el polvo perfecto” enters that conversation from Madrid, in Spanish, but with references any American user will understand instantly: the block button, the fixation on muscles, the coded request for someone “discreet.”
The song also offers something American audiences don't often get from AI-generated music: a clearly identified author with a point of view. In a moment when AI in music is mostly discussed in terms of copyright fights and faceless streams, Mike Sain't Louis is unusually transparent. He tells you which part is his — the story, the satire, the images — and which part is made with the machine. You can argue with the method, but you'll know exactly what you're arguing with.
