Same seat, different view: Mike Sain't Louis takes listeners up a Ferris wheel in the fog with “La perspectiva”

The Madrid-based indie alternative artist and self-described “first AI singer-songwriter” explains why a ride that goes nowhere is the best image he has found for changing your point of view, and why an empty fairground says so much about life after the party

MADRID, 25 October 2026 — A Ferris wheel is, by any practical measure, a ridiculous machine. You climb into a cabin, go all the way around and step out exactly where you started. Mike Sain't Louis, the Madrid-based indie alternative artist who introduces himself as “the first AI singer-songwriter”, thinks that is precisely why it is beautiful. In a new essay on his blog he uses one of his own music videos, “La perspectiva” (“Perspective”), to make a simple argument: the wheel doesn't move you anywhere, but it changes the way you look.

“You get off in the same spot,” he writes, “and you're not the same person who got on.”

A fairground with nobody in it

The video for “La perspectiva” went up on YouTube on Saturday 31 May 2025. It runs for 2 minutes 55 seconds and sits at number 147 in the long, numbered broadcast of videos that makes up his project, PLANETA GAYFOLK. The song belongs to the second album of his GAYFOLK trilogy, “Ojalá se pudiera viajar a GAYFOLK” (“If only you could travel to GAYFOLK”), which he describes as the record about wanting to leave.

Visually, it is close to a poem. There are very few elements: a woman in a white dress who is nearly always seen from behind, a forest crossed by beams of light, a house with a swing, a cliff at sunset, a vintage car and, above all, a fairground. A huge, grey, silent fairground where Ferris wheels turn without any hurry.

The first time the wheels appear, the sky is as white as a bedsheet. There is no sun and no shapely cloud, just the flat light of an overcast Sunday with no plans. Several white wheels rise from a stretch of asphalt, some near, some far away, their spokes thin like the ribs of an open umbrella. And in the middle of it all stands a tiny figure in white, so small she could be mistaken for a scrap of paper the wind has left behind.

Watching what she watches

Mike explains that the woman's back is the key to the whole piece. We are never inside her head. We only see what she sees. “We're one more passenger in the cabin,” he writes.

That choice of scale carries the message he wants listeners to take away. “Sometimes the problem isn't what's in front of you,” he says, “it's how close you're standing to it.” Press your nose to a wall and all you see is brick. Step back and the wall becomes a building, the building a street, the street a whole city you had never really looked at. From the highest cabin, he adds, problems that looked like mountains on the ground turn out to be pebbles on a very big car park.

The empty fair has a second meaning. Fairgrounds are built for noise: screams on the roller coaster, tinny music from the dodgems, the smell of fairy floss and churros. In “La perspectiva” the rides are intact, painted and ready, but there is no queue and no ticket booth open. Mike compares it to certain stretches of life when everything that used to make you happy is still in its place, the same bars, the same streets, the same songs, but none of it makes a sound any more.

Words by Mike, sound built with AI

The essay is also a clear statement of how he works. Mike Sain't Louis writes every one of his lyrics. He is the composer, music producer and artistic director of his own songs, and the CEO of his own independent label, MIKE SAIN'T LOUIS, with no record company and no middlemen in between. The music and the vocal performance are made with artificial intelligence, which he uses as a production and arrangement tool. He does not sing: the voices on his records are AI-generated. The words, the ideas and the direction are his.

Over roughly two years of work he has published 273 singles and more than 280 music videos under the PLANETA GAYFOLK banner. Three albums gather that universe into a single journey: “Descubierto un nuevo planeta llamado GAYFOLK”, “Ojalá se pudiera viajar a GAYFOLK” and “El día de la liberación”, a trip to a planet where everyone can live exactly as they are.

His style moves between electropop, alternative pop, ballad and the Spanish copla tradition, with a cheeky, uncensored, camp sense of humour. Many people found him in 2024, when his track “Tan Cateto” went viral on TikTok.

Why Australian listeners might climb aboard

Australia has its own long love affair with fairgrounds, show rides and big wheels turning over a city at dusk, and an independent music audience that has never needed a major label's permission to fall for an artist. “La perspectiva” asks for nothing more than three minutes and a willingness to look at something from higher up. The lyrics are in Spanish, but the images do much of the translating: a lone figure, a grey sky, a wheel that keeps turning.

“You don't have to run away to another continent to see your life differently,” he writes. “Sometimes it's enough to go up a few metres and stay still at the top for a moment.”
