Nobody to tell him to tone it down: how running his own label let Mike Sain't Louis release a song for everyone discarded by a narcissist

"El descarte del narcisista" is one of the rawest tracks in the PLANETA GAYFOLK catalogue; its Madrid-based author, an indie alternative artist who calls himself "the first AI singer-songwriter", explains why only total independence made it possible

Madrid, 25 October 2026

There is a kind of song that a record company would probably ask an artist to rethink. Too angry, too personal, too specific, too risky. "El descarte del narcisista" ("The Narcissist's Discard") is that kind of song. It is furious and tender at the same time, it names the pain without dressing it up, and it ends with a curse rather than a resolution. Mike Sain't Louis released it exactly as he wrote it, because there was nobody above him to say otherwise.

Mike Sain't Louis is an indie alternative artist based in Madrid who calls himself "the first AI singer-songwriter". He is lyricist, composer, music producer, artistic director and CEO of his own independent label, MIKE SAIN'T LOUIS. No record company, no manager vetting the tracklist, no distributor deciding what is too much. Over about two years he has built a catalogue of 273 singles and more than 280 music videos under the banner of PLANETA GAYFOLK, every one of them free to stream and download, lyrics included, at mikesaintlouis.com.

A song written to someone else

"El descarte del narcisista" is not addressed to an abuser. It is addressed to another person who has been hurt by the same kind of behaviour. The opening lines speak directly to her: "Porque yo sé que también lloras / a solas" – "Because I know you cry too, alone". The song describes the confusion that follows: feeling that nobody understands, that everyone is lying, even your own people, and the slow, painful acceptance that so much of what you believed – details as basic as age, nationality, eye colour, a supposedly senior job – was false.

Then comes the line at the heart of the song: "Pero yo estoy contigo / ¡No estás sola!" – "But I'm with you / You're not alone!" The narrator explains why he can say it with such certainty: the same "discard" was applied to him, with the most absolute indifference, as if the relationship had been a one-night fling, something used and thrown away.

"When I wrote it, I wasn't thinking about the person who did it," Mike says. "I was thinking about the person who's still sitting in her kitchen wondering if she imagined everything. I wanted her to hear someone say: no, you didn't imagine it. It happened to me too."

Anger is allowed

The second half of the song changes temperature. The narrator talks about the damage done, not only to himself but to someone close to him, and about how long it has taken to recover. Then the anger arrives, unpolished and unashamed. He warns the person responsible to stay far away once he is better, recalls a cruelty towards a former partner who fell ill, and signs off with an insult that leaves no room for diplomacy, along with the promise to tell the story publicly, even if he has to write a whole book.

It is not a polite song. It is not meant to be. In the PLANETA GAYFOLK catalogue, explicit language and raw emotion are part of the work, not decoration. And this is precisely the point where independence stops being a business model and becomes an artistic necessity.

Why the label matters

Running his own imprint means every editorial decision rests with one person. Mike chooses what is released, when, under what title, with what artwork and with what video. Nobody asks him to soften a chorus, shorten an outburst or replace a word with something safer for radio.

"If I had a label, someone would have said: lovely song, but maybe lose the last verse," he says. "And they'd have had a point, commercially. But the last verse is the part where I stop being a victim. I'm not cutting that to make anyone comfortable."

That freedom comes with responsibility, and with work. The catalogue was not built quickly: it took around two years to reach 273 singles and over 280 videos, each one written, directed and released by the same person. There is no team to blame if something lands badly, and no marketing department to take credit when something lands well. In 2024, when "Tan Cateto" went viral on TikTok and introduced many listeners to his music, that too happened without any industry machinery behind it.

Independence also shapes how the music reaches people. Because no one else owns the catalogue, Mike can give it away. Every song on mikesaintlouis.com can be streamed and downloaded at no cost, with its full lyrics. There is no shop and nothing to buy. For a song like this one, that matters: someone who needs to hear "you're not alone" should not have to pay for the privilege, create an account or sit through an advert first. The song simply sits there, with its lyrics beside it, for whoever finds it on the night they need it.

The writer and the instrument

Mike Sain't Louis is, above all, a lyricist. The music and vocal performance on his tracks are generated with artificial intelligence, which he uses as a production and arranging tool; the voice you hear is AI-generated. The words, the ideas and the artistic direction are his. That is the meaning behind "the first AI singer-songwriter": the writing is the signature, and the technology is the instrument.

His style sits within indie alternative and queer alternative pop – brazen, funny, very camp and uncensored – ranging from electropop to copla and from alt-pop to ballads. Most of his songs are in Spanish, with others in English, French and Portuguese. His recurring subjects are love and heartbreak, ex-boyfriends, nosy neighbours, queer life in Spain, liberation and mental health.

A purpose beyond the songs

"El descarte del narcisista" belongs to the most personal strand of his work. With professional support, Mike turns years of relationships with narcissistic partners into music. His stated aim is to make narcissistic and psychological abuse visible, together with the marks it leaves on mental health, and to make sure people going through it feel seen and believed.

That purpose runs through the wider PLANETA GAYFOLK story, built around a trilogy conceived as a single journey: "Descubierto un nuevo planeta llamado GAYFOLK" ("A New Planet Called GAYFOLK Has Been Discovered"), "Ojalá se pudiera viajar a GAYFOLK" ("If Only We Could Travel to GAYFOLK") and "El día de la liberación" ("Liberation Day"). The destination is a planet where everyone can live exactly as they are. Songs like this one map the ground that has to be crossed to get there.

The photo: an empty theatre

The image accompanying this release shows Mike Sain't Louis standing among rows of red velvet seats in an Italian-style theatre, wearing a black waistcoat over a plum shirt. The auditorium is empty, the stage is his. It is a fitting picture for an artist who has decided to run the whole production himself – writer, director and producer of his own show, with no impresario in the wings.

Why it resonates in Ireland

Ireland has a deep tradition of songwriting that tells hard truths plainly, and audiences who value a lyric that means what it says. In recent years there has also been a growing public conversation in Ireland about coercive control and psychological abuse in relationships, and about how hard it can be for those affected to be believed. "El descarte del narcisista" speaks directly to that experience, in Spanish, from the point of view of a gay man who refuses to stay quiet.

Ireland's thriving independent music scene, where many artists self-release and build their audience without a major label, will also recognise the model behind it. Full lyrics are published on the official website, so English-speaking listeners can follow the song line by line.
